AIN reports No Fatal Business Jet Accidents in First 6 Months

Business jet flying worldwide suffered no fatal accidents in the first half of this year. According to AIN research, N-numbered business jets had not seen a fatal-free first half since 2009.

That’s in sharp contrast to the 15 fatalities in four crashes in the first half of last year, one of the highest fatality counts reported in a six-month period. Still, the tally of 11 non-fatal U.S. business jet accidents in the first half of this year was more than double the four mishaps reported in the comparable period last year.

There was no improvement in the number of fatalities from accidents involving U.S.-registered turboprops in the comparable periods: 16 people died in five crashes this year; 16 people perished in six accidents last year.

Last year, three crashes involving non-N-numbered business jets killed 14 people, compared with zero fatalities this year. Fatal crashes involving non-U.S.-registered turboprops took the lives of 22 people in the first six months of this year versus 15 in the same period last year.
